let's make some soup 'cause the weather is turning cold

remember back in the fall, when it got cold, but things were still green?

i have a couple things on my mind, as the season of insanity approaches. we had an early christmas with my extended family last weekend, and we got the tackiest gift i've ever received in my life. These people, they're usually good at giving good gifts, so I don't know what happened this year. I have a suspicion that they're regifting. At least we have the receipt, so we can return it, though the store is tacky in itself, so if we only get store credit, we'll be stuck with something tacky.

i made up a christmas playlist on my ipod. the title of this entry is one of the songs on the list. know the artist? speaking of music, i saw some live music recently. i went to see chris and kate (www.chrisandkate.com). except this time, kate wasn't there. apparently, she is with child, and couldn't make the trip. chris is a terribly talented musician on his own, but it is the hypnotizing vocals of kate that i am drawn to. i bought a ticket anyway and enjoyed the show, but obviously, something was missing.

i was away last week for a few days to teach a course - about a 4 hour drive. the course went well, the drive was tolerable. my exam is coming up this weekend, and i'm starting to cram. no other news to report.

this photo was the first significant snow of the year. i'm amazed at how such a small, dying plant can support so much snow.

Love the pics!

Regifting...ha. That's great. I don't think I've ever regifted.

Owen, they could've just been trying to come up with something different... it might not be a re-gift.. where's your graciousness? (LOL). I have at least 2 parties a year that I attend where you are supposed to bring a "white elephant" gift (ie. a re-gift). At the one last night I recieved a coffee/ spice grinder that I distinctly recall from last year's party. Merry Christmas, Owen!

Didn't know what u liked...but here you go...although if something is that tacky...they would have to be on my shit list to get it...but then again...why would u get something for someone u don't really like. Uh-OH i am doing it again...

You have to love our attitudes towards gift giving! I actually don't mind getting gifts for co-workers, teachers, and all those people that aren't family. I just get them something that I would like to get myself and it usually works out quite well. (Well at least I think it does, I have never been regifted my own gifts so...oh and Sand I would love that grinder! I grind coffee beans every morning for my coffee. :) )

It is family that I find hard to buy for. My extended family is spread all over the country so I don't get to see many of them very often. It makes it difficult to buy them something that I feel thoughtful about giving and that they will actually enjoy. It has gotten so bad that if I buy another Home Depot gift card for my husband's dad I will probably scream! It is exactly what he wants but I am beginning to find it tiresome. In fact my line of thinking has become...I buy you a gift card, you buy me a gift card....let's forget about buying gift cards and you just buy whatever you want for yourself and I will buy whatever I want for myself and we can tell each other what we bought! Okay, okay, I know that isn't very good holiday spirit but this is getting frustrating!!

What was the "tacky" gift? Anonymous and I really want to know now!

(Oh I have given in and I got dad-in-law a gift card...Home Depot should love me, I seem to buy at least 2 $50 gift cards from them every year! :( )

Yes..I am glad I am not the only one wondering what the tacky gift was. Those pictures are so wonderfully beautiful in their simplicity. What an eye you have!
