No excuses

I haven't been here in a while. I could throw all sorts of excuses, but it all seems so lame. I'll move on.

I was in two mountain bike races this past weekend. The first was an 8-hour relay that was great fun. The second was a mud fest, after a heavy rain Saturday night rain. I was still tired fro mthe previous race, plus, I forgot my water bottle in the car, so I was fluid-less for the first half of the race. It ended up being less of a race, and more of a fun ride. Some of the hills were so slick, I decided to walk up and down them.

My racing season has come to an end. I've signed up for a weekly core strengthening and flexibility course. It seems good so far. I'm pretty much the world's most inflexible person, so it can only help. The class combines yoga and pilates and some tai chi. I'm already feeling an improvement.

My Ipod died on me a couple of weeks ago. It started to make that sound that a failing computer hard-drive makes when it's pooched. whrrrr-whrrr thunk, whrrrr-whrrrr-thunk. I sent it back to Apple ($40 for shipping), and they sent me back a brand new one, all within a week, so I'm happy again. I'm not really a high-tech person, but if I had to have one high tech gadget, it would be my ipod. I hardly ever use my cell phone, and my PC, well, this is mostly for work. I have an old palm pilot too, but I don't use it.

I'm currently listening to the Paste Magazine Sampler CD, issue #17
I'm currently reading: John Irving's Until I find you.
I'm currently watching: the new season of LOST (not right this moment, but in general)

get to work

this past weekend i was involved with a trail-building school. i'm an avid mountain biker, and i thought i'd give something back by doing maintenance on our trail system. it was fun, though, as you might expect, i'd rather be riding. we did ride on sunday, and that was fun. i have a couple of races coming up at the end of this month (less than 2 weeks away), so I'll keep training for those. after that, i'll cut back on my riding. with the decreasing daylight, it'll be harder to get rides in during the week, unless i want to go night riding. i don't mind riding at night, but it's not something i do a lot of.

september is a good month, perhaps my favourite. it's back to school month. it's cool autumn breeze month. it's warm days, cool nights month. it's the best time to be biking, because there are no bugs, it's not too hot, it's dry. see how it all goes back to biking.

i have re-introduced myself to an old hobby in the past month. fishing. i live very close to a large river, which is known for fishing. so for my birthday i asked my folks for a new fishing rod and reel. so they got that for me along with a new tackle box, filled with some of my dad's old lures. since he's taken up fly fishing, he has no use for the lures. i think eventually, i'll try fly fishing as well. i find it so relaxing, sitting by the river, casting. it's not even about catching fish, really. though that is fun.

oh, and i started writing again. i continued on that soundtrack project i've written about in here. i currently have a list of 22 songs.....

that's about it for now.
